Privacy policy

In short

• AetherStream is a player. It plays the IPTV playlists and subscriptions you add yourself. It does not provide, sell or host any content.
• We collect no personal data. There is no AetherStream account, no usage statistics, no advertising, no tracking, and no crash report is ever sent to us.
• What you enter stays on your device. Your credentials are stored encrypted and never reach us.
• We neither sell nor share any data, since we receive none.

What is stored on your device, and only there

• Your IPTV subscriptions: server address, username, password or playlist address. They are stored encrypted (Android secure storage).
• The keys you enter (TMDB, online subtitles): encrypted as well.
• How you use the app: “My List”, where you stopped in a movie or an episode, search history, your settings, themes, languages and hidden rows.
• Your providers’ playlists and cached images, so the app starts quickly.
• The videos you download, in the Movies/AetherStream folder of your device.
• A diagnostic log, kept on the device. Only you can read it, from the local web console described below. It is never sent.

This data is not copied by Android’s automatic backup. It is removed when you uninstall the app, except downloaded videos (in your movies folder) and the backup files you exported yourself.

The services the app contacts

The app talks directly from your device to the services below, and only for the purpose described. As with any exchange on the Internet, each of these services sees your connection’s IP address.

• Your IPTV providers: the app contacts the servers you entered, with your credentials, to load your playlists, the TV guide and the videos. We know neither these servers nor your credentials. Each provider’s own policy applies.
• TMDB (The Movie Database): for details, posters and recommendations, the app sends TMDB the title being looked up and an access key, then downloads the images. See TMDB’s privacy policy.
• Wyzie Subs: only if you add a subtitles key and start a search during playback. The app sends the title’s TMDB identifier, the season and episode, the wanted languages and your key.
• xmltvfr.fr: to download the French terrestrial TV guide. No data about you is sent.
• Google Fonts: some fonts are downloaded from Google’s servers the first time they are displayed.
• Google Play: installation, updates and the purchase of the full version go through Google Play. We only receive from Google the confirmation that a purchase exists, never your payment details. Google’s privacy policy applies.
• Google Cast (Chromecast): if you cast to a TV, the video address is sent to your Chromecast device on your local network. For a downloaded video, the app serves it itself, on your local network only, at a secret address specific to that cast.
• YouTube: trailers open in YouTube (app or website), under Google’s policy.

The local web console

When you open it, the app starts a small server reachable only on your local network, protected by a personal code. It is used to set up the app from a phone or a computer. It stops by itself 30 minutes after the last action. Nothing goes through the Internet or through us.

Backups

A .aether backup file is only created when you ask for it. It is encrypted with the password you choose (AES-256) and saved where you decide. We never have access to it. Restoring a backup does not transfer any purchase: the full version purchase is tied to your Google Play account.

Android permissions, and why

• Internet and network state: read your playlists and videos, and honour the “Wi-Fi only” setting.
• Notifications: follow a download or the current playback.
• Foreground service and keep awake: continue a download or a cast with the screen off.
• Videos and storage: save your downloads in the Movies/AetherStream folder and find them again.

Children

The app is not directed at children and collects no data, including about them.

Your rights

We hold no personal data about you: there is nothing to access, correct or erase on our side. The data stored on your device is under your sole control: you can delete it from the app or by uninstalling it. For data exchanged with a third-party service, contact that service.

You can write to us at contact@aetherstream.app, and you have the right to lodge a complaint with a data protection authority (in France, the CNIL: cnil.fr).

If this policy changes, the new version is published on this page with its update date.
